影片讲述郑板桥在乾隆二年时进京赶考，原考第一后被改在第88名，并不给安排官职，回乡一等就是十年，十年后，他带当时的皇帝给他出的对联的下联进京，皇帝看中他，但不能用他。。Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。
